Last post before the holidays, I've finished the High Five...
Doctor Varia, the creator of the Variant Process, transforming ordinary humans into superhumans through the manipulation of the genetic variable found in everyone's DNA, started his program with one initial team. These five individuals were hand selected from student volunteers. They were the first people to become "Variants".
After their transformation, he taught them to use their powers for good, and they in turn, became instructors for the following generations of Variants that came through the process.

Great Dane - the leader of the team, he has the ability to project strong beams of plasma from his body.
Jolly Roger - ability to steal others powers. Also, strength and speed.
Alter - strength, stamina. Also has the ability to shift opponents' powers, either stronger or weaker, altering their ability to use them.
Mona Lisa - Telepath, strength, hand-to-hand combat.
Glimpse - Speed, strength and stamina.
Now, obviously, the "Variants" are my versions of "Mutants" The High Five would be the core, initial X-Men, and the other teams from it would be X-Factor, New Mutants, etc. Nothing surprising. Doctor Varia is also a rip-off of Doctor Morituri, and his process is no different than the Morituri Process. So, esentially, this is a cross between the X-Men and Strikeforce: Morituri, two of my favorite titles in the 80s.
"Imitation is the greatest form of flattery."
So be it.
